Mission Becomes Impossible

The chance of Indonesia to go through to round 4 AFC World Cup 2014 qualification is getting more and more difficult after 2 – 3 lost against Qatar yesterday ( 11/10 ) at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium.

The must – win match both for Indonesia and Qatar to make their chances to Brazil 2014 bigger provided a breathtaking match for both sides. Abdulaziz Al Sulaiti scored Qatar first goal in the 14th minute after receiving assist from Khalfan Ibrahim whom penetration could not be stopped by Indonesian defender.

Indonesia drew the score after the naturalization striker, Cristian Gonzales finished the rebound in the 28th minute of the game. The goal happened after Qatarian goalkeepeer, Baba Malick, did not make a save clearance when he blocked Bambang Pamungkas strike.

However 4 minutes later Khalfan Ibrahim punished Ferry Rotinsulu’s out of position by sending nice lob to Indonesia’s net. Indonesia clawed back again by Cristian Gonzalez’s goal in 35th minute. Indonesian winger, M.Ilham, cut Qatar’s left side before giving an assist to the center and then Supardi who ran from the second line tried to kick Ilham’s ball to Qatar’s goal. Gonzalez who stood in just before Baba Malick deflected the ball which could not be saved by Baba Malick. The half time ended with a draw result.

The second half began with a series of Indonesian’s attack. But the score still 2 – 2. The disaster from Indonesia came in the 59th minute. A gap in Indonesia defence made Muhammad Razark scored the third goal for Qatar.

In the remaining time, Indonesia failed to fight back again. Indonesia’s coach, Wim Rijsbergen, also failed to give any solutions for his lads. Wim who lately became the most highlighted person after Indonesia’s defeat again Bahrain, only wrote in the bench and talked to his assistant. In the last minutes of the game Indonesia played with three strikers but could not scored a goal.

This result made Indonesia rooted at the bottom of group D. With three remaining matches, Indonesia sees this as mission impossible. The chance is still there for Indonesia but with small opportunity. Indonesia must win in that three games and can not be defeated again if they still want to continue their world cup dream.

  1. Sepertinya terlalu berat beban timnas Indonesia untuk bertarget menang di setiap match. Yang paling utama, timnas Indonesia masih perlu membentuk karakter bermain di samping target menang.
